Book Review: The Girl Before

Hi guys, sorry my post is a bit late this week, I’ve been out enjoying the sunshine! As promised, today I have a review of the book I mentioned in the last post and, as I thought, I read it within a week of purchasing it because it was so gripping! If you enjoyed The Family Upstairs, this is along the same lines, very thrilling!

Summary

Emma and Jane are both about to move into One Folgate Street; Emma then, Jane now. The architectural phenomenon is the first of its kind, controlled completely through technology, and based around the idea of simplicity. Having both been through recent trauma, the house seems like the best way to gain control over their lives.

But One Folgate Street isn’t any old house, and both must consent to pages and pages of what seem like absurd rules such as no clutter or personal touches.

Then there’s the architect. Mysterious, enigmatic and handsome, both women are in awe of his charm. What does he have to hide? Is there more to this mysterious house and the man that comes with it?

What happened to the architect’s wife? Will the same come of the other two? There are obvious links between them all but what does this really mean?

My Review

From the beginning, the novel is gripping. The instant link between the two women is their trauma and their love for the house, but as the novel progresses, more become apparent. The contrast between the two perspectives emphasises parts of the story such as the ability of the architect to charm whomever he pleases. The novel also has depth in that it deals with the complicated subject of trauma in two instances, a burglary, rape and the loss of a child. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys an easy reading light thriller.

My Rating

Rating: 5/5
